For instance if someone wanted to get into better shape, we had them describe what their ideal body looked like, and what they do on a daily basis with a healthy body. Basically it’s visualization spoken out loud, or written down.
It’s a great technique to really “see” where you want to go. The more detail you give, the better. Once you have a clear picture, you can work backwards and start to figure out the strategies and goals of how to get there.
While you may never achieve your exact vision, you start to learn things about yourself. You can just tap into your imagination and play!
One question I ask myself every so often is, “what do I want my own success to look like?”
Here is what I see:
I am happy. Not full of constant bliss but very content. I laugh a lot.
I live in a comfortable house near the beach with my husband (Ryan Gosling or Reynolds if he gets divorced-kidding sort of) and our dog and cat. We are surrounded by lots of nieces and nephews, and possibly even his own kids (hey I’m 41-it’s possible).
We also have a lot of friends, and like to host dinner parties (did I mention Ryan is a gourmet chef? I didn’t? Well he is-it’s my fantasy dammit!), then sit outside in the cool California air drinking one of the many vintage wines from our cellar (we tend to stock up on our yearly visits to Napa) by our outdoor fire pit. Yes, you can come too!
Ryan and I like to do things together, but we also enjoy time apart in our own activities. I’m still playing beach volleyball (and kicking major ass BTW), and I’ve even gotten involved in some theater and started taking dance lessons again.
The area we live in has a lot of culture, shops and restaurants, a lot within walking distance. One of my favorite ways to end my weekend is to have dinner out with my girls, then get a spa treatment.
We usually take one international trip each year for 1-2 weeks, or just chill out at a fabulous resort in Hawaii. And we try to take one or two domestic trips a year to visit family, or a part of the United States we’ve never seen.
I love my job making videos about projects involving action sports, or projects that somehow make a difference or influence people. Ryan loves what he does (whatever that is-maybe he retired from acting?). We both make a very comfortable living, and have enough to sustain our lifestyle with no debt, and plenty of money for retirement.
Most importantly we are healthy, and have a lot of love in our lives both from friends and family.
And he’s fantastic in bed!
Oh, perhaps I got a little carried away with my vision. Ahem!
Ready Universe? GO!
So, have you ever visualized what a successful life looks to you? I challenge you to write it down somewhere, or go ahead and post it here! I’d love to know!
