If you’re like me, then you probably thought each and every time, “this woman has the best job in the entire world.” I was especially jealous of the shows where she traveled around the world going to the best spas. I wonder if the crew ever got to take advantage of those perks too, or did they have to suffer in silent envy?
How does one get those “dream jobs?” Luck? Timing? Skill? Talent? All of the above?
If you’re Oprah, you don’t believe in “luck.” She thinks luck is just preparation meeting opportunity. For the most part, I tend to agree. Although if you open your eyes to times you considered yourself lucky, you’ll probably see that it was YOU that made something happen, not fate.
A year ago, I would have laughed at you if you ever said I would be a personal finance blogger. Me? Talking about money? Buahahahahaha! You cra-cra!
But here I am, and to my surprise and gratitude, I think I’ve built up a nice little community that I look forward to interacting with each day. And with a new Google PR of 4, I’m hoping that I can take things to new heights! As you might remember I like to dream big!
I think for me right now the big hurdle is lack of time, because I still make my living from video editing And although I do enjoy it, I really feel passionate about blogging, and working on my blog in particular.
When dreaming big about the future of this blog, I see so many fun possibilities: hiring another person to help write and manage the blog, earning a decent income from it so that it supplements my freelance income each month, writing an e-book, going on speaking engagements and helping others learn from my mistakes, getting paid trips to test out “budget” “beach” locations and write about it, and hosting a fun podcast.
The one I really daydream about would be to take a road trip with a film crew to meet people from all over the US and Canada, and interview everyday people about money/personal finance/debt, etc. Basically, I’d love to use my video background and parlay that into this site, combining both my favorite things.
One of my girl crushes is Lisa Ling, and I love the work she does with her documentaries like Our America.
Considering a year ago I never would have considered myself a “writer,” let alone get paid to write, or be someone who could make even a dime off my blog, who knows if I can’t make these dreams into a reality!
If you could design your own dream job, what would it be? How close are you to turning your dreams into a reality?
