Taking a Gamble

SUNSETWhat’s the first thing you think of when you hear the word gamble?

Perhaps you’re thinking of betting on the “big game,” going to the races, online gaming sites like foxybingo.com, or the ultimate, VEGAS BABY!

But that’s not what I’m referring to. I’m talking about taking a gamble with your life. Not in a dangerous way of course (but if you are I highly recommend skydiving), but in putting yourself out there in ways that might make you feel uncomfortable, but could have big payouts if you just take that chance.

So what are some of the ways you can take a gamble in life?

Freelancing. Well that’s a biggie. I know not just everyone can take that leap. If you do, I always recommend that you are prepared at least a year in advance financially. Practice living on half your income…you’re going to need that skill!

Dating. Oh yes I’m still in the dating pool, and I live in LA so it’s a giant pool! Sometimes it’s hard to “put yourself out there,” and it can be difficult to approach someone you might be interested in. But think of the possible payoff! Getting to spend time with someone you like, and possibly having it turn into something long term!

Classes. How long has it been since you’ve tried something new, like dance, music, or singing? Or even a new fitness class or sports league? Everyone starts off a newbie. I did when I started taking beach volleyball classes, and it turned into one of the greatest passions of my life.

Traveling. If I had waited to travel overseas until the perfect guy came along, or when one of my friends had availability, I would have waited FORVER! I hate to break it to ya but we ain’t got forever! Traveling by yourself is not as scary as it seems, and it’s a great way to break out of your shell and meet and talk to new people. The world is your oyster!

So, what are you waiting for! Take a gamble on yourself!

In the case of freelance, you are taking a gamble with the right preparation, it would be suicide otherwise, like gambling all your life savings on one poker game! I like taking gambles and getting out of my comfort zone. Don’t really care about failure and that is what led me to my biggest wins.

Fitness competitions have always been in the back of my mind, but the embarrassment of parading around in fitness wear and clear heels make me shy away from it… maybe someday when my comfort zone levels increase! I agree about skydiving (though I went tandem so I kind of cheated :)).

I wish I’d have travelled more when I was younger. I love having a family but I think backpacking through Europe is now out of the question! :-)

It is important and scary sometimes to go past your comfort zone. My husband and I love to travel and experience new cultures. It’s something we love sharing with our girls now that older to really enjoy traveling.

I’m a bit of a risk-taker so gambling comes easily (too easily?) to me. I’ve changed careers, bought a condo at a young age, changed jobs without any pre-planning… lol. It’s always worked out. As long as you can roll with unexpected setbacks, many risks are worth taking. -cf

I’m reading the 4-hour workweek and it’s interesting how that is the overall theme of the book. I’m not that far in, so I’m curious to see how I can apply that to my own life.
