In a couple hours, I’ll be heading down the 405 freeway (yes, we always put a “the” when we say freeway names) to Long Beach to participate in the ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball (#WSOBV) as a member of the ASICS challenge team (from Thurs night to Sunday eve).
A month ago, ASICS approached me to be on the team, which I was of course super stoked for since I love to play and watch beach volleyball, but in the end I wasn’t selected for the team. 🙁 But they did allow me to do a really cool giveaway, which was awesome!
Earlier this week I got an email out of the blue from them, asking me if I’d like to be on the team, since someone had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Hell yes!
As I had written about before, this month has been really slow for work, but I did have a couple things lined up, so I wasn’t sure I’d be able to reschedule, but thanks to my understanding client (and fellow beach volleyball player), I was able to move my Friday meeting, opening myself up for a long weekend of all things beach volleyball.
ASICS is putting us up at the Queen Mary Hotel (sweet!), and I’ll be participating all weekend long in things like beach volleyball clinics with the pros, volleyball drill testing, training sessions with celebrity trainer Michelle Lovitt, dinner, cocktails, volleyball matches, and of course getting great seats to witness the best in beach volleyball duke it out for one of the biggest prize purses in pro beach volleyball competition. I feel like I won a trip to beach volleyball camp!
Last week I was feeling kind of down about the fact that my mud/obstacle course run was cancelled, but I’m also a firm believer that you have to bounce back quickly from things that knock you down, because you never know what cool opportunities await around the corner.
The best part about the whole experience is this opportunity came about as a direct result of having this blog. If anyone doubts that blogging is not a seriously fun hobby that can lead to some pretty cool experiences, guess again!
I want to thank ASICS from the bottom of my heart for the opportunity, and I can’t wait to share my experience with you all when I get back! I’ll also be tweeting during the weekend so be sure to follow me at @beachbudget.
Check it out!
