I don’t know about you, but as the weather starts to cool down and the holidays approach, I tend to get a little bit lazy about my fitness routine and eating well. Let’s just say I’m a big fan of your typical fall/winter comfort food.
I also know with the holidays approaching, it’s easy to let your budget get out of hand and overspend on food, gifts, parties, and other things this time of year.
That’s why for the month of November I created a Health and Wealth Challenge. It’s a one-month commitment to getting in great shape both with your health and finances. And I promise you it will be easy enough so everyone can participate! My goal is that you just get into great fitness and financial habits.
And for everyone who does participate, there’s a great prize for one winner that pertains to both health and wealth, as well as one prize for Los Angeles residents.
Health and Wealth Challenge Rules:
You have to exercise five days/week for at least 10 minutes.
What does that mean? Even for the busiest person out there, 10 minutes a day is totally doable, even if that means setting a timer and doing jumping jacks in your house for 10 minutes. The keywords in this rule are “at least,” meaning if you are working out hardcore six days a week, try to add something new/different to your routine, like foam rolling, yoga, and pilates, or adding more time to your workout.
For those that are new or restarting your exercise program, the point is to build up a habit so that you get used to exercise as part of your everyday life.
You are on the honor system, so if you put in the time, I’ll believe you, but push yourself. If cardio to you means going from your couch to the refrigerator, then go for a walk around the block. If it means you go for walks, then try jogging. You get the picture. Raise your own bar, because remember, pumpkin pie (yum!) isn’t calorie- free!
And don’t use not having a gym membership as an excuse! There are plenty of free apps out there, and in my opinion walking is one of the best exercises anyone can do.
Each week create one new healthy habit.
What does that mean? This can be anything from quitting diet coke and replacing it with a glass of lemon water, or turning off the TV by 9pm each night and meditating for 5 minutes instead. Try to stick with the new healthy habits all month.
Each week you have to find a new way to make money and/or save money.
What does that mean? Find something to sell on Craigslist, or call your cable company and try to reduce your bill (or cancel cable all together!). Or it can be something as simple as giving up buying coffee at Starbucks for a week. It can even mean starting a budget if you’ve never had one before, because I guarantee in the long run it will help you manage your money better. Click here for my simple excel spreadsheet template.
In any case, it has to be something to earn or save money!
Every Monday beginning on November 10th, I will ask everyone who signed up to check in with me via Facebook (I will post a check in thread), or you can email me at budgetandthebeach *at* hotmail *dot* com. Even if you mess up and miss one day of exercise, or slip up on the saving/spending portion, you have to check in to be eligible to win a prize.
I have some great prizes this month which represent health and wealth. For health I’m giving away a PEAR training intelligence kit.
