I’ve been sitting here trying to rack my brain about what I did in August. I’m having trouble coming up with the events that made up my month. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing.
I know the first two weeks I watched the Olympics. It must have been something about seeing the awesome physical shape these athletes are in, but for the first two weeks of the month I was kicking ass with eating and working out.
The last couple weeks, not so much,
I have been doing well with my “one thing” challenge though, which since I’m half-way through I can let you know was no eating work snacks. These are the peanut butter-filled pretzels, the chocolate covered almonds, the Cheez-It crackers, etc. I’ve been bringing my snacks, which usually consist of hard boiled eggs and cottage cheese. I sometimes bring bananas, but I’m also allowing myself to eat the work bananas too.
I went to see a couple outdoor movies too in August. I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark and Top Gun on the beach (for free, although I took a Lyft to get there), and I saw Sixteen Candles with Melanie.
Lastly I hosted a BBQ with friends, took part in a local meetup with my former NWCN co-workers from 20 years ago, which was really fun. I also bought a new table (aka countertop space), which I love, and was pretty cheap at $100!
As far as finances go I had a good month (we got paid three times) of earning, but I also spent WAY too much in my lifestyle expenses category. My net worth went up $4,704 this month. That’s $36,293 since January of this year!
Some new changes in my budget include upping my 401k contributions to 10%, and upping both my vacation savings per month to $400 and my Sh*t breaking/car repair (or what I like to call my “premergency” fund) to $250 per month. I also contribute $1,369 to my Vanguard account per month), and I save about $450 per month through Digit. I love me my Digit!
Although that’s great, I still need a better handle on lifestyle expenses and my grocery budget…some things never change. Ugh!
As you know I also cancelled my trip to Austin in October. I’m still happy about this decision.
And of course Fincon is towards the end of the month.
One of my goals this month is to get back to a regular meditation practice. I’ve been getting to work early and after all is said and done with my morning routine, I have not made 10 minutes per morning for this, which is ridiculous since I find it so beneficial. I’m also starting to get back on my bike more, since my back has been feeling better (I have to thank Kara for the inspiration)
That’s kind of it from my boring little world. 🙂
Oh! One more thing! I’m shockingly nominated for another Plutus Award for video. I have NO idea how since I only made (I think) two videos for THIS site this year. I’ve been making a TON for GOBankingRates.com of course! Anyway, thank you so much if you nominated me, but I seriously hope someone else wins since I’m pretty much sure anyone but me in my category deserves it more than I do. I still very much appreciate the nod though! 🙂
