Has anyone else been in total nesting mode this month? I definitely have! I have a lot to talk about, so let’s just dive in, shall we?
This was an expensive month. 🙁 My cat Pepe has been sick, so there have been a lot of vet visits and medication, as well as an increased need to buy more food (which is prescription) and litter (because he is on Prednisone, which makes him hungrier and thirstier). I would go into more details but it’s too sad. He’s over 15 years old now, so I shouldn’t be surprised that all of this is happening.
For any of you who have ever had to deal with a senior pet, you do just about anything to help them, without prolonging their life to keep them around if they are in pain or uncomfortable. He’s not there yet (I don’t think), but it’s been so stressful caring for him when he has accidents with the 3 P’s (puke, poop, and pee). I definitely have NOT been sleeping well this past month.
I realize though that this is a blip in life, and that the most important thing I can do is to make his life as happy as I can while I still have him around. I can’t see myself getting another pet for a VERY long time after he is gone…
Despite the pet costs this month, my net worth increased by $3,552. That’s a total increase of $39,845 since the start of the new year.
I’m still looking to cut costs though as my grocery budget is still…OMG, I still don’t know how it’s possible that I spend so much in that category. There is seriously just no reason. I’m so embarrassed to admit that it was $619 last month! FOR JUST ME! And it’s not like I’m chowing down on steak and lobster every night. To be fair, that does include things like vitamins and other household items, and I rarely eat out, BUT STILL. I’m pretty sure I could knock $200 off that easily while still not eating just pasta and beans, AND not starving either!
In other news, my rent is going up $50 starting in November. I’m not at all upset about this because my rent is still low in comparison to other rents in the area. And in December our company is moving into a new building just 1.6 miles away from my house! Yes, you read that right. Just over 1 mile! YAY!!!
I bought my mom a plane ticket to come out to LA for Christmas. It’s the first one we are celebrating together in YEARS. I used my remaining Southwest points and I just had to spend $60 to cover the remainder. I seriously wanted to kick myself though because mere seconds after purchasing more points, I suddenly remembered that I had a $75 voucher from Southwest that I could use. Ugh!
I wouldn’t say my birthday was anything special this year (except I’m still alive! Yay!). I was a little down in the dumps that weekend because of Pepe and just …I don’t know, melancholy.
I went on a day trip to Idyllwild, which is an adorable artsy mountain town basically above Palm Springs. I went hiking and then my friend Dave and I wandered around town while there was an art and wine festival going on. I loved being in green, fall-ish scenery.
I tried Tai Chi for the first time. I’ve always wanted to try it but it costs around $10-$20 around town, but my gym that my company pays for has a location where they teach a class. I can definitely see the benefit of doing it, but it’s something that probably takes time to master and see positive side effects. Needless to say, I think I’ll keep at if for now because it’s something different, and good for the soul.
And lastly Melanie and I went on a hike from her house to Griffith Park Observatory today. We got rained on the whole way, but it’s pretty cool you can walk from her house, and she was equally excited to know that you don’t actually have to pay to get into the Observatory. #frugalfun 🙂
This month will consist of more laying low (big surprise). I might start to play around with working out before work since it’s getting darker earlier, which means my motivation to go to the gym after work is starting to fade. I did it before and it was really nice to get it out of the way, but oh man I’m not looking forward to getting up earlier.
Once we move into the new building in December my plan is to walk or ride my bike to work, shower, and get ready there (they have private showers in the office itself!), maybe do a lunch workout (they also have a gym right in our office), and walk/bike home. Logistics of lugging clothes/lunch there TBD. 🙂
I also have another new hire starting next week. That will be 4 people I manage. Kind of crazy since it’s been about a year since I started working full time and back in the day it was just me on my team!
That’s about it from me! Don’t forget to vote. And pray it isn’t Donald Trump who wins! Sorry did I lose readers? I seriously doubt it. 🙂
How was your month? Do you switch up any of your routines for the winter months?
