The other day I happened to catch a TED Talk with Sarah Knight, who wrote the book, The Magic of Not Giving a F*ck. I had heard of this book before, but it wasn’t until I watched this talk that I decided to buy the book, and it’s worth every penny, especially if you need a good laugh…at yourself.
Before we dive deeper into what (bleep) bucks are, let me just say that when you see the title, you might automatically think, “you sound like a (bleep-hole) if you don’t give a (bleep). True, but Sarah addresses this, a lot, in her book, saying that if you are polite and honest about what you do or do not give a (bleep) about, you shouldn’t come off as a (bleep-hole). This is fun. 🙂
It’s not a new concept. Essentially, it’s spending your time, energy, and money on things you value, aka, value-based spending. I talk a lot about it on my site, as do many others. But sometimes it takes being beaten over the head by (in this case) humor, that you start to really wake up to taking a look in your “barn” (aka brain or mental clutter), as Sarah calls it, to see what you need to get rid of, and what you want to spend your (bleep) bucks on going forward, after you have created your (bleep) budget.
Just like a regular budget, your (bleep) budget is divided up into categories that make up your life: family, things, work, friends, strangers, etc. And just like you have a set amount of money for your regular budget, you also only have a certain number of (bleep) bucks in your account, therefore, you shouldn’t be handing out your (bleep) bucks left and right.
Just for (bleeps) and giggles, I thought it might be fun to reveal some of the things I don’t want to spend my (bleep) bucks on, and some things I do!
Stuff I Don’t Want to Spend My (Bleep) Bucks On
I’m over giving a (bleep) about Pinterest and how it can help my site. I feel as warm and fuzzy about Pinterest as I do working with affiliates. I just can’t seem to find the secret to success no matter how many bloggers say, “it’s sooooooo easy.” Well, (bleep) you!” LOL. I kid. Sort of. No, but seriously, am I alone in this? I’ll probably always make my lil Pinterest image on my website, but to be quite honest, I don’t even spend one second on Pinterest. Awe yeah, I’m just getting started mother(bleep)ers!
Food and Drink Festivals
I love good food. I love wine…and beer. You know what doesn’t love food, wine, and beer so much? My ass (oops, that one didn’t get bleeped)! I get that it’s a fun way for me and my friends to hang out and bond, but I’m sorry guys and gals, you’re stuck just going on a hike with me. Unless you want to pay for my personal trainer too!
The Fact That I Will Never Have a Messy Bun
You know those girls in yoga who have luxurious long hair (and perfect Lululemon outfit)? They come in, and before class even starts they practice (aka show off) the fact that they can do handstands sans wall. Then right before class they effortlessly pull their hair up in the most beautiful messy bun that Vidal Sassoon has ever seen. Yeah, I hate those bit…(bleepers)! If I were to pull my rubber band out my ponytail would stay in that shape because I have to hairspray the (bleep) out of it to stay. I’m officially over caring about it. Nama(bleeping)ste!
Disney (land) (world) (planet) (mall) (whatever)
I know so many adults who LOOOOOOOVE Disney. I don’t. I totally don’t get it. Never have, never will. If you ever come visit me and want to go to Disneyland, I will gladly hand over the keys to my Rabbit and send you on your Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah way.
Stuff I DO Want to Spend My (Bleep) Bucks On
I don’t often get home to Michigan in the summer anymore, but you best believe when I do, I make my way south to Sandusky, Ohio to Cedar Point. It’s like Disney…..hahahahahahahaha, who are we kidding? It blows (overpriced) Disney out of the water. If I’m going to be standing for awhile in any kind of line, I better be experiencing some G-force-scare-the-(bleep)-out-of-me moments. Cedar Point delivers.
I love movies. I have since I was little and my Dad used to take me all the time on the weekend to catch the latest flick. Fortunately, Redbox makes my (financial) life easier, and I only go out to the movies if I really need to see something now versus later (Hi Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2!).
I mean really…are you surprised? I still can’t do a handstand though. (BLEEP!)
Securing My Financial Future
I would say this is less about spending my (bleep) bucks but saving them. While I can’t even be close to knowing what tomorrow will bring, let alone 10 or 20 years from now, I can plan as best I can to make sure that no matter what kind of life I choose, there will be some (bleep) bucks, and REAL bucks sitting in my account(s).
If you want to know how I track all of my real bucks, I use Personal Capital. It’s an awesome (FREE!) tool and like many other PF bloggers, I’m pretty addicted to checking my accounts quite often to keep me on track. Did I mention that I get a nice little bonus if you sign up through my link? I’m just putting it out there because I’m tired of being (bleeping) subtle. Sign the (bleep) up! hee hee #sorrynotsubtle
This being honest thing is fun!
What things do you refuse to spend your (bleep) bucks on, or love to spend your (bleep) bucks on?
PS, My SEO says my readability “needs improvement.” Well (bleep) you too!
