This post is very lightly edited since I need to finish packing!
I’m getting ready to leave for my trip to Europe, but since I had today off, I had time to squeeze in a gym workout and a game of beach volleyball.
I haven’t been playing as much, as I’ve been trying to avoid putting all my fitness eggs in one basket. I wanted to make sure I did some other things around LA, like hiking, since it’s no secret LA isn’t my forever home. Not sure where my forever home is, or when I’ll be moving to this magical land (lol!), but it’s always something I’ve believed to be true.
But, I’m still here, and LA offers some great (and cheap) summer activities. I have felt that these first four to five months have been going by in a blur, and I haven’t taken a lot of time to appreciate all that life has to offer. And as summer approaches, I want to “soak up the sun,” AND save money!
One of the best (and free) options is just hanging out at the beach. I hope to do more beach runs not just on the weekend, but maybe in the evenings as well. I definitely want to play more beach volleyball, but since I haven’t been playing as much, my defense really sucks! Hopefully I can do some training with my friend Dave. And then of course there are two awesome AVP tournaments in Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, which are also free.
My hope is that the city of Hermosa Beach will also have not just free concerts for the month of July like they do every year, but also free movies on the beach each weekend as well. Last year I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark and Top Gun, and nothing is more fun than hearing everyone sing “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling” together.
I’m going to start doing some experiments not just with my diet and fitness this summer, but also with money. And I’m cutting way back on several things. I’m feeling behind with my savings goals this year because of this Europe trip, so if I’m going to make my 300k net worth dream by the end of the year a reality, I need to make some serious cuts in my budget.
With the experiments, I might be creating some videos for that. This one is tough to commit to because it is the most time consuming, but I’ll see what I can do. Since at my full time job I’m not doing much hands-on creative work anymore, I don’t want to lose touch with things like camera work and editing.
To help with my savings goals and other money-related goals I have this year, I’m going to look into doing some more side hustling. But only if it doesn’t suck up ALL my free time, and it’s fun. I might play around again with coaching, helping my friend Jared out with his corporate team building company. Maybe some consulting, or even podcast editing. Leaving myself open to new things! Watcha got?
Even though I don’t have much clutter in my apartment, I’m ready to go through some things and get rid of anything I don’t need. I need a good cleansing. lol! Maybe I’ll have another joint yard sale with some friends, although I didn’t really clean up at the last one I had.
I think above all else I just want to slow down and be more mindful. I’ve been in a little bit of a rut lately, which I’m hoping this trip will help with! I think it will give me some time to sort out a few things that have been on my mind.
What are you looking forward to most about summer? Any suggestions on some experiments I could do that I could make videos of?
