OK, you want the good news or bad news first? Let’s start with the good: My Europe trip was unbelievable! But I’ll get into that in a second. The bad news: I got hit with the stomach flu the day after I got back. 🙁
It’s 4:30 am on Sunday morning as I write this, and I’m wide awake because I’ve already been sleeping on and off for two full days. I’m getting better slowly, but it might take some time to fully recover. I tell you nothing makes you appreciate your health more than a case of the stomach flu. It totally knocks you on your ass. But on a positive note, it’s a pretty fast way to lose vacation weight, right? lol! 🙂
It has to be the best timing ever, as I felt fantastic on my trip and cannot imagine this happening while I was there, or worse, on a plane for 11 hours. But the really sad news is I had to miss my good friend Paula’s wedding last night, which devastated me. I planned my trip around being home in time for her wedding.
But on to the more positive stuff…
Like I said, unbelievably great. The weather turned out to be MUCH better than forecasted, and in fact was sunnier and warmer than where I live in LA. Actually, there is only one day where it got TOO hot, and that was my first day in Salzburg, where it was 87 when I arrived. Did it rain? Yes, but the timing was always perfect, raining only when we were on a bus traveling, sometimes literally 5 minutes after we stepped on the bus, or at night.
Snafus were minor, as in whoops, I burnt off part of my hair with a curling iron because I forgot about the voltage difference. I also probably should have chosen a single supplement on the tour because I still sleep terribly with random people in the room, although I was very fortunate in that a couple of the stays they actually had a separate bedroom. There is one night I decided to pay around $50 for a private room. Worth it!
I did great with very light packing, wearing everything I brought. Shoutout to Clark sandals and Skechers tennis shoes, because they endured a lot of walking (upwards to 10k-23k steps a day, including some serious hikes, and my feet felt great. In fact, better than the “real” hiking shoes I bought recently. The only thing I wish I would have packed is one pair of workout shorts and top and a sports bra. We did a LOT of hiking! I also wish I would have packed a swimsuit, but with the weather forecast, I thought I wouldn’t have needed it. I was wrong. So I ended up buying one.
Loved being part of the Intrepid tour, as it was so nice to be told where I needed to be and what time, plus get built-in city information about the places we visited. And have people to travel “with” if I wanted, or “without” if I didn’t. If that makes sense (remember my brain is lacking serious glucose right now).
Finally, in one word about Croatia and Slovenia: GO!!!
As far as money, I didn’t track what I spent on the trip or even what I spent for the month of May. Not going to lie, this was in no way, shape, or form a budget trip. I didn’t deny myself anything. I knew that this kind of trip is not something I do every year, so I wanted to enjoy it to the fullest extent. If I would have skipped something like whitewater rafting down the Soca River to save money, I would have missed out on what was probably one of my favorite things I did on the trip!
Of course, now it’s time to save. Like REALLY save. I’m back to tracking my expenses. And there will certainly be no more eating out like I was doing in Europe (plus the thought sounds rather nauseating to me at the moment-lol). My net worth did increase by $4,479 this month, which puts my net worth total at $232,338. Can I make it to $300k by the end of the year? Dang, going to be tough. But I’m hopeful!
No major plans this month. Just going to focus on health and maybe getting back into beach volleyball some more. I’ve been missing it! Also going to get back into riding and walking more to work, and maybe even host a BBQ, if June gloom ever goes away.
If you want to see more pictures from my trip, the best place to view them is my Instagram account. I’m feeling a bit too weak at the moment to be sitting upright much longer so I’m gonna peace out for now!
