Welcome to another month, and another recap. I had a couple big events in my life this month, so let’s get right to it.
First, I paid off the rest of my car loan, which means I’m 100% debt free…again. I could have paid my car off sooner, but at 2% interest, the money was best served in good, interest-bearing accounts.
I had about $1,000 to go, when I started having trouble with my credit union’s website. I thought I had paid December’s bill, but it turns out my payment didn’t go through, so I got a fine. Grrrr!
So, I just wanted to check a line item off my budget. And with that…done!
This month I also bit the bullet and bought a new MAC computer. I had someone from work help me figure out what system/memory/storage/yada yada to get and what store I could find the best price. I luckily was able to open a new credit card with a good sign-up bonus after spending 3k in 3 months, and I did that with just one purchase. Yup, one. So overall my new setup cost me about 3k.
But…it’s so freaking fast people! And it’s so quiet compared to my old computer. I’ve already picked up podcast editing and video editing work (hire me!), and I’m putting all the extra money back into savings.
But the even better financial news is my net worth still went up $10,166 this month! I was pretty frugal in almost all other areas of my life, which helped, and I managed to successfully track my spending.
This past month I also ran the Xterra Series Boney Mountain 6k Trail Run. It was quite windy and chilly that weekend, and I had a little bit of a cold, but I still beat my time for the last 5k trail run I did (and this was longer, of course), but I only placed 7th. Whaaa-whaaaaaa. Here is a video my former boss made of the event. It’s short. 🙂 Check out his website while you’re at it: Hiking Alone Together.
In my continuing saga not to eat work snacks, I would say the first half of the month was business as usual (meaning I did), but the second half of the month I did really well.
I’ve been eating 99.99% of my meals at home, and even shared one of my favorites (Kale & Quinoa salad) on my Frugal Diaries series. I also made a Cauliflower and Walnut soup from the Flat Belly 365 book that the author sent to me. I made a huge mess in my kitchen making it, but HO-LEEE shit was it delicious…and healthy. And I’m not even trying to plug his book, but I rarely impress myself with my own cooking. lol!
I did a one-month free trial of HBO specifically to watch Big Little Lies. It did not disappoint, and I’d say it’s the one show in history I truly binged watched. It was THAT good!
I also got sucked into The Bachelor for the first…ok second time ever. The other one was so long ago I had to google who the Bachelor was (it was Ben, and he proposed to that crazy bi-atch Courtney). Well, this season is no stranger to crazy, as Krystal is the new “villain.” It’s hard to believe these people really exist. I’m somewhat ashamed I’m watching. 🙂
Well, I started a new series here and on my YT channel called Frugal Diaries. It was supposed to be a weekly thing, but no matter how simple I try to make these videos, they still eat up way too much of my time. 🙁 With that said, I’ll just do them when I feel like it.
Speaking of the diaries, in episode 1, I talked about how I quit Classpass to save $60/month (for about 5 classes). Welllllllll, they gave me an offer I couldn’t pass up. $30/month for 3 months. I thought it over, and with my love of working out and health, it seemed worth it.
This month I’m still focused on frugality and healthy living, but I think I’m actually going to try to take a break from social media for a month. I don’t want to get into some long diatribe as to why, but it’s for the reasons that many people decide to take a break: FOMO, needing external validation, comparison, distraction, too much bad news, etc. The one I have the hardest time not clicking on is Facebook, so I’m seriously giving consideration to disabling my account. The good news is all your info/photos, etc. remains stored until you come back online. hmmm. I think what is hard is that most invites to events come through FB.
I’ve also started decluttering (again) and focusing on some easy and cheap DIY projects around the house. Seems fitting that I’m also going to see The Minimalists speak next week, which they are filming for their second movie.
PS, congrats to the Philadelphia Eagles. I watched and it was an intense game! But the real winner of the Super Bowl was the Eli Manning Dirty Dancing commercial. #awesome! The runner up was that kid who got a selfie with Justin Timberlake. Time to bawl my eyes out at This Is Us. All my questions will be answered Mr. Announcer? Hmmm, methinks you’re lying.
How was your month? What did you think of the Super Bowl?
